Project Farm Makes Fresh, Local Produce Available to Families in Need.

Joannée DeBruhl, an insurance professional turned farmer, is giving back to the Livingston community through a partnership with OLHSA and the Livingston County Hunger Council.

After opening Stone Coop farm in 2010, DeBruhl began looking for ways to make fresh, organic, local produce more available to low-income families.

Mirroring Project Fresh, a state funded program that gives seniors (60+) coupons for produce to spend at the local farmer's markets, DeBruhl started gift certificates, which OLHSA will distribute to eligible Livingston County seniors at the same time they distribute Senior Project Fresh coupons. These certificates allow the purchase of produce at Stone Coop Farm or their booth at the Brighton Farmers Market.

Stone Coop Farm, OLHSA and the Livingston County Hunger Council are also looking for local farmers to join in the effort to make healthy, local food more available to those in need.

For more information or to see if you qualify for Project Fresh or Project Farm, please contact Allison Krys at OLHSA. Her number is 517-546-8500 Ext. 4109.
