Happy Mother's Day to mothers, step-mothers mothers-in law and grandmothers everywhere.

Once a year, Mother's Day rolls around to celebrate mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in our everyday lives.

To celebrate this special day, Brighton Patch asked readers to tell us the best advice their mother ever gave them. This is what they said:

Sherylann Derkatz-Miller said her mother told her "to be myself and people will like me no matter what."

Rachelle Karinen Stawiarski said the best advice her mother gave was: "Believe none of what you hear, and half of what you see."

Kelly Ferencz said her mother told her "nobody likes a rotten kid" and "mind your manners and make me proud."

Barbara Schultz Hynes said her mother advised her to always tell the truth.

Hartland Patch Editor Tatum Ryan said the best advice her mother gave was "Put on some lipstick. You'll feel better!"
