Video: Jack's Custard Brings Unique Flavors to Downtown Brighton

, a downtown Brighton staple for kids and adults alike, got its start six years ago, when owner Jack Sample and his family visited a custard shop in a little town in Ohio where they were attending a wedding.

"On our way out of town, I just thought, I can do this," Samples said.

So he talked to the business owner, who gave him the recipes for the custard flavors and menus to get him started.

And the rest is history.

The business spent its first five years at a location off of Lee Road and US-23, and since moving to downtown Brighton, Sheryl Kemmerling, Sample's daughter, said things are much better.

"Downtown Brighton is just so much fun right now," she said. "It's just a great community - business is booming, there are people everywhere, everyone's happy."

Kemmerling said when Jack's Custard first chose the downtown location, people questioned their choice, because it opens off of the back alley to the Municipal Parking lot rather than on Main Street.

"They don't realize that there are hundreds of kids in the park (Imagination Station) every day," she said.

Sample said his favorite thing about his business is making the flavors.

"The fancy stuff, I'll leave to the people who know how to make it," he said.
