Hazel Park Residents Top Clawson in Recycling Contest
Clawson residents increased their recycling volume by over 10 percent last month.

Clawson residents turned out to increase their recycling habits by more than 10 percent during the recycling contest this past spring.
Clawson lost by 0.3 percent to Hazel Park, whose residents increased their recycling practices by 10.4 percent in the monthlong contest.Â
Although the exact increase of 10.1 percent over normal volumes of recyclables collected wasn't enough to topple the competition, Clawson residents apparently did not feel a case of sour grapes.
A post on the Clawson Facebook Page helped to illustrate the experience: "I cut our total waste stream - landfill & recyclables - by some 20% and think it's more important than just increasing recyclables," wrote Denise Wecker-Seipke.
"But am happy that the city's recyclables have gone up more than 10% overall!"
Â
Clawson had previously recycled about 16 percent of its trash, according to Clawson Mayor Penny Luebs. For more information on recycling in Clawson, visit SOCRRA.org.
