2 Michigan Workers Die After 1000lb Granite Slabs Falls On Them

Two workers at a Sterling Heights warehouse were trapped under the pieces of granite used to make counter tops.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI β€” Two men have died after 1000-pound granite slabs fell on top of them at a wholesaler in Sterling Heights.

The accident happened at Stone Warehouse on 19 Mile Road Monday afternoon, according to reports, and killed a 28-year-old and 60-year-old man, Newsweek reported.

Firefighters and police officers found two employees had been crushed by multiple slabs of concrete, and were pronounced dead on the scene, the report said.

The slabs, which are used to make counter tops, are thought to weigh around 1,000 pounds and are 5-feet by 6 to 8-feet in size. There were "many slabs involved," according to the report.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
