Brazen Burglar Steals $20K in Jewelry; Vandals Target Mailboxes, Vehicles in Clinton Twp.

Burglar makes off with $20,000 in jewelry in broad daylight

Between 8:35 a.m. and 10:07 a.m. Oct. 11, an unidentified suspect stole an estimated $20,000 in jewelry from a home on Millar in Clinton Township.

Responding to an alarm, police found the rear door of the home had been forced open and several rooms in the home ransacked, according to the police report.

A neighbor who lives across the street told police she saw a light-colored mini van pull into the home’s driveway and a man knock on the front door of the home several times before disappearing around the back, according to the report.

The neighbor said the man returned to his vehicle several times carrying a bag filled with something. The home’s owner said he believed some $20,000 in jewelry had been stolen during the break-in, according to the police report.

Vandals target vehicles, mailboxes near Millar and Moravian

During the overnight hours of Oct. 9-10, several mailboxes and vehicles in the area of Moravian and Millar were vandalized by an unknown individual or group.

  • In the 18000 block of Thomasine Street, unknown suspects shot out the back windows of two vehicles and destroyed a light fixture.
  • In the 38000 block of John P. Street, two homeowners reported damage to their mailboxes.
  • In the 38000 block of Santa Barbara, one homeowner reported damage to his mailbox while another reported someone broke the driver’s side mirror of his vehicle

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the police department at 586-493-7840.

Man arrested for marijuana possession carrying thousands in cash

On Oct. 11, at approximately 9:02 p.m., a 33-year-old man was arrested for possession of marijuana after police stopped his vehicle in the area of Gratiot and Schafer.

When an officer approached the vehicle after the stop, the driver handed him a baggy of marijuana. There was also a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle, according to the police report.

A vehicle search revealed a box containing $5,120. Another $2,061 was found in the man’s pocket during booking, according to the police report.

The man told police he had medical marijuana card. This could not be confirmed at the time of his arrest.

Woman knocks out man's false teeth in fight, destroys TV sets

On Oct. 17, at approximately 2:16 a.m., a resident in the 23000 block of Manila St. reported he had been assaulted and his property destroyed by a 43-year-old woman who had been visiting him.

The victim told police the woman had become verbally abusive and when he asked her to leave, she punched him in the mouth, knocking out his false teeth, according to the police report.

He left immediately after and came back a short time later to find both of his TV sets destroyed.

The woman was arrested for domestic violence and malicious destruction of property.
