CVHS Band to March in America's Thanksgiving Parade for Record 12th Year

Do you hear what I hear?

If you're planning to watch the 86th America's Thanksgiving Parade you can be sure you'll not only hear but also see the talents of the Chippewa Valley High School Marching Band.

Under the direction of Tim Hoey, Chippewa Valley will join the Nov. 22 parade for its 12th consecutive year – the longest performance streak of any band in the parade. Dakota High School will also march in the parade.

"We have been reliable participants who always deliver an exciting product on the street," Hoey said, crediting the band's record participation to "consistent quality."

Although the band boasts more freshman than in years past, Hoey said having previously marched a Labor Day parade in Detroit and in the Richmond Good Old Days festival, "the new members are not strangers to parade performance."

"There is no way to prepare the band for the much larger crowds you see in Detroit except to know your music and marching inside and out. They’ll be ready on Thanksgiving morning," he added.

The parade will step off at 9:05 a.m. and make its way along Woodward Avenue from Mack Avenue to Campus Martius in downtown Detroit. If you're planning to head downtown, be sure to set your alarm clock and check the parade website for additional route and parking information.

For those watching from home, keep your eyes glued to the screen around 10:30 a.m. when Hoey said he anticipates the band will arrive in the TV zone.

The band will play such holiday tunes as "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and “Christmas on Parade” as well as "Land of a Thousand Dances," which the Parade Company specifically asked the Big Reds to perform as they march through the TV zone, Hoey said.

The parade will be broadcast live on WDIV Local 4 and on WJR 760 AM.
