Drunk Driver Sparks Utility Pole Fire, Takes Swing at Cop in Clinton Township

A 21-year-old Roseville woman was arrested Dec. 23 for drunken driving after crashing her vehicle into a utility pole on 19 Mile Road and attempting to punch a Clinton Township officer.
Police responded to the intersection of 19 Mile Road and Dalcoma around 2:13 a.m. Dec. 23 for the report of an accident. Upon arrival, officers found a Ford Fusion with front-end damage and a utility pole with sparking wires, according to the report.

The woman told police she had been arguing with a male passenger, who left before police arrived, when she lost control of the car and ran into the pole. The woman was uninjured but police say her speech was slurred and she had trouble standing.
The woman admitted to drinking and registered a .153 blood alcohol level on her preliminary breath test. She also failed a series of sobriety tests, according to police.

However, when officers attempted to arrest the woman for operating while intoxicated, she threatened to harm herself and took a swing at her arresting officer, police say.
Unable to subdue her enough to be handcuffed, police tased her once and placed her under arrest for resisting and obstructing, according to the report.
The Clinton Township Fire Department was also called to the scene to control the fire that resulted from a small explosion near the utility pole.
