Invention Takes A Bite Out Of Lawn Work

Clinton Township man's "Shark Tooth Edger" attaches to a standard walk-behind lawn mower.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI β€” The inventive spirit isn’t dead in America. Clinton Township resident Thomas Francis provides a living example with his β€œShark Tooth Edger,” a lawn mower attachment that makes having to own a separate machine for edging a thing of the past, according to a C & G Newspapers report.

β€œThis is in the $65 bracket because it makes sense,” Francis said. β€œIt works extremely well. … With the know-how we have in this country, we can put a weed wacker on the side of (a lawnmower), we can put an edger like I did, and you could do all jobs with one piece of equipment. And you wouldn’t have a packed garage.”
β€œA deal was in place with an unspecified manufacturer. When β€œday zero” came around, the manufacturer offered him $2 million for the idea. Francis told them that wasn’t the deal, as there was an initially agreed upon percentage. When he was offered $3 million, he again said that wasn’t the deal.”
