1 Dead In I-94 Crash In Metro Detroit: Police

Police were still trying to figure out what led to the crash.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A Dearborn Heights man was killed in an overnight crash along Interstate 94 in Metro Detroit, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 12:25 a.m. Friday in the westbound lanes on Interstate 94 near the Southfield Freeway in Wayne County, according to police.

Police said the 64-year-old man was driving a pickup truck west on the freeway when he slammed into the back of a gravel hauler that was stopped along the right shoulder due to mechanical issues.

When troopers arrived, they found the pickup in the right and center lanes with heavy front-end damage, while the hauler was still on the shoulder, according to police.

The 64-year-old Dearborn Heights man, who was driving the pickup, was killed in the crash, according to police.

The driver of the gravel hauler was not injured in the crash, according to police.

As of Friday morning, the ramp from northbound Southfield Freeway to westbound Interstate 94 at the Southfield Freeway was closed.
