Celebrate Henry Ford's 150th Birthday: 5 Things to do This Weekend

Here's a look at what's going on around Dearborn July 26-27 to celebrate Henry Ford's birthday.

This weekend the Dearborn community will celebrate the 150th birthday of automobile pioneer Henry Ford. Here are five ways you can celebrate the man who put the world on wheels.

1. Maker Faire Detroit

Maker Faire Detroit is taking place inside and outside The Henry Ford museum on Saturday and Sunday. More than 400 tinkers, hackers and inventors will make their way to museum to showcase their craft. Ticket prices for Maker Faire Detroit are $28 for adults (13-61), $19 for youth (5-12), and $26 for seniors (62 and up) and can be purchased at www.makerfairedetroit.com.

2. Coming Together: A Celebration of Henry Ford

The event takes place on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Henry Ford Estate. The day-long free party features live music, dance demonstrations, a special Dearborn Farmer’s Market, and a display of influential Ford automobiles. Visitors can tour the beautiful gardens, relax on the riverfront grounds while enjoying specialty foods from food trucks, or gather with friends in the Tashmoo Biergarten.

3. Check out a book on Ford's life

The Dearborn Public Library has numerous books and movies chronicling the life of Henry Ford. Browse the selection at http://dearbornlibrary.org/.

4. Take a driving tour

Taylor-based Bianco Tours is celebrating Henry Ford's 150th birthday by offering a driving tour of historic Ford landmarks. Schedule your "Happy Birthday Henry" trip by calling 734-946-7021.

5. Make a soybean snack to share with friends

Henry Ford was known for his love of the soybean. Try out this recipe for a chocolate chip soybean cookie. The recipe was found in a book titled "Cooking For Henry," a cookbook by Henry Ford's personal party chef, Jan Willemse.
