Dearborn City Council Set to Approve Amended Fireworks Ordinance
The ordinance will restrict the times consumer fireworks can be used during national holidays.

The Dearborn City Council is taking the first steps to reduce the number of fireworks complaints from residents.
The council may approve the second reading of an ordinance amendment that restricts when consumer fireworks can be ignited or discharged during national holidays.
The amendment would align the city's ordinance with current statewide guidelines that restrict the use of consumer fireworks to the day before, the day of or the day after a national holiday. During those days, fireworks can only be used between 8 a.m. and midnight, except for New Year’s Day, when they can be used between 8 a.m. and 1 a.m. Jan. 2.
Violators under the new ordinance can be punished by a fine of up to $500, the most allowed under the state law.
Council members will consider the ordinance's adoption during their meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23.
