Dearborn Hosts Parenting University

Parents who live in the district and have children ages 6 months to 4 years are invited to attend free Parent University courses.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Public Schools has a motto that parents are every child’s first teachers. Now, they are hosting a series of free classes to help families along the way in their learning journey.

Parents who live in the district and have children ages 6 months to 4 years are invited to attend free Parent University courses that begin Oct. 18.

“This program is interactive for parents and children. It gives parents easy, practical and inexpensive ideas to help foster child development and to strengthen the parent/child bond,” said Cotter Principal Amy Modica, who oversees Parent University.

Parent University provides parents with classes in different developmental areas to help the adults best meet the needs of their young children. Class topics include: nutrition and health, dental care, social emotional growth, screen time and technology, math, literacy, music and movement, and science. During classes, parents will participate in hands on activities with their child, hear from professionals in these areas, and receive free materials to continue learning through play at home. Parents also receive free books they can read to their child

Classes will be offered again this school year from Feb. 28 to April 3.

The fall classes will be offered on Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. at Nowlin, Maples, McDonald, River Oaks, Salina, and William Ford elementary schools. No registration is required. For more information, call (313) 827-6150. The program runs through Nov. 22.
