Dearborn Man Stops Thieves from Stealing Neighbor's Bicycle

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Good Samaritan was able to stop two suspects from stealing a child's bicycle in Dearborn on Tuesday.

According to police, the 30-year-old man was sitting on a friend's porch in the 6800 block of Steadman Street when he observed two young males riding a single bicycle northbound on Steadman. The neighbor watched one of the suspects jump off the bike at a nearby home, walk behind the house, and emerge a short time later with another bicycle.

The man believed that the bicycle was stolen and followed the two suspects on his motorcycle to the intersection of Mead and Blesser streets, where he confronted the suspects. The suspects left the bike and fled to Warner and Coleman streets before abandoning the second bike and fleeing westbound into Detroit.

Dearborn police officers were dispatched to the area but did not find anyone matching the suspects' description. One of the suspects is a black man in his 20s carrying a blue backpack. A second man is white and also in his 20s and had shoulder-length red hair.

The owner of the bike told officers that he left it in his backyard and was unaware someone took it until his neighbor returned it.

A red Mongoose BMX bicycle was taken to the Dearborn Police Department, where it was marked, tagged and placed in the garage until its owner can claim it.
