Henry Ford Community College Offers Theatre, Special Effects Courses This Fall

Classes begin on Aug. 22 for the fall semester.

The Henry Ford Community College Theatre Department is offering 10 courses for the fall semester, including several special effects courses for aspiring film directors.

The courses include:

Greenscreen Production for Stage and Screen: Introduces students to the concepts of modern film special effects with special applications to the stage. Class offered on Monday and Wednesday from 12:40 to 2 p.m.

“Demo Reel”: Provides aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to create a professional demo reel of their work that follows industry standards. Class offered on Mondays from 7:25 to 10:05 p.m.

Stereoscopic Cinematography: Provides videographers and filmmakers the opportunity to learn the principles of 3D stereo. Class offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:10 to 3:30 p.m.

Science Fiction and Horror Films: Examines the history of films that emphasize the fantastic from film’s beginnings to the present. Class offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:08 a.m. to noon.

Theatre Appreciation: Designed to introduce students to the basics of theatre in survey form. It will be offered Tuesday and Thursday from 9:40 to 11 a.m., as well as 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will also be offered on Monday and Tuesday from 7:25 to 10:05 p.m.

Acting I: A beginning acting class stressing contemporary realism. Class offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:40 to 2 p.m., as well as Wednesday from 7:25 to 10:05 p.m.

Acting III: A course for those wishing to develop monologues for audition purposes. It will be offered Tuesday and Thursday from 9:40 to 11 a.m.

Stagecraft: Serves as a basic survey of the major techniques and theories of scenography used in modern theatre. It will be offered on Monday and Wednesday from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Theatre History: This is a survey course of theatrical developments, including acting, directing, theatre architecture, artistic movements and significant ideas affecting the development of theatre from the ancient Greeks to the present. Emphasis is placed on individual research and projects. It will be offered from 10:08 to 11 a.m.

Improvisation for the Actor: It is designed to offer a solid theoretical basis and practical experience with vocal, movement, character, scene, style and multi-scene improvisation as an introduction to rehearsal approaches, character development and creativity. It will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
