Primanti Brothers unexpectedly decided to close down its only two metro Detroit locations, stunning employees and customers, a report said.

METRO DETROIT — The only two Primanti Brothers sandwich shops in Michigan abruptly closed down Tuesday, stunning employees and customers, according to a News-Herald report.

The sandwich shop, known for serving its signature sandwiches, which include Italian bread, fried potatoes, coleslaw and provolone cheese, is preparing to shut down its two shops in Taylor and Novi, the only two in Michigan, according to the report.

"We had no idea," an employee told the outlet. "We’re like a little family here."

The restaurant also removed the two metro Detroit locations from its website's list of eateries, which now only shows shops in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia and Florida.

Primanti Brothers, founded in Pittsburgh in 1933, opened its first Michigan location in Taylor during the summer of 2016, when more than 100 people attended the grand opening. The Novi location opened a few months later.
