Sequins and Suits: 5 Upcoming Charity Events in Dearborn

If you have some time to give and the inclination to make a difference, here are five worthy causes holding fundraisers in Dearborn this week and next. 

1. 21st Annual Falcon 5K

The 21st Annual Falcon 5K is dedicated to the memory of Mark Carpenter and is presented by Jack Demmer Ford. The Falcon 5K starts on Aug. 10 at Levagood Park on Silvery Lane between Ford and Cherry Hill roads, west of Telegraph. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers and the top three master (over 40) male and female finishers. Commemorative Falcon 5K medals will be awarded to the top 100 female/male finishers. Registration is available online.

2. The Arc Dearborn’s Potbelly Fundraiser 

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is holding a special fundraiser for The Arc Dearborn on Aug. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Twenty-five percent of the profits for all orders from 5 to 8 p.m. will go to The Arc Dearborn.

3. Third Annual Divine Child Golf Classic

The event takes place Aug. 16 at the Dearborn Country Club. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. The cost includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch at the turn, beer on the course, a buffet luncheon and reception in the main ballroom, ice cream sundae bar, awards and prizes. 4. Bowl-4-Animal Rescue

Professional bowling champions Aleta Sill and Michelle Mullen are co-owners of Aleta Sill's Bowling World, the host of Bowl-4-Animal Rescue. This eighth annual event takes place Aug. 10 and has a goal to once again raise thousands of dollars for the Michigan Animal Adoption Network (MAAN) and the Friends For The Dearborn Animal Shelter (FFDAS). The 2013 fundraising goal is $40,000. Tickets may be purchased by calling Aleta Sill's Bowling World at 248-615-9060 or email Michelle@YourBowlingCoach.com.

5. Sequins & Suits Charity Gala

This charitable event takes place at Crave Lounge, 22075 Michigan Ave., at 7 p.m. Aug. 15. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Sisters Inspiring Sisters, a nonprofit organization mentoring young women. All ticket purchases and sponsorships are tax deductible.
