Southfield Freeway Construction In Wayne County Begins This Month

The $15.5 million project will stretch along nearly five miles of the freeway in Wayne County, according to Michigan road officials.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — Crews will begin construction on a major stretch of the Southfield Freeway in Wayne County this month, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Crews will start patching and resurfacing both directions of the freeway between Ford Road and Pinecrest Drive (just south of Interstate 94) on April 29, according to road officials.

The crews will also put down new pavement markings, along with routine maintenance, according to road officials.

There will be continuous single-lane closures during the weekdays and double-lane closures overnight and weekends, but there will always be at least one lane open at all times, according to road officials.

Ramps between Ford Road and Interstate 94 will also be closed when crews are working on or near those ramps, according to road officials.

Crews will start working in the right lanes, including on ramps and the service drives near Interstate 94 and Michigan Avenue, according to road officials.

The work will then move to the left and center lanes, according to road officials.
