Wayne Co. Man Charged After Stomping Small Dog To Death: Police

A 54-year-old Dearborn Heights man is facing charges after stomping a small dog to death, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — A 54-year-old Dearborn Heights man is facing charges after stomping a small dog to death last month, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Haseeb J. Habeeb was charged with one count of second-degree killing/torturing of an animal and one count of abandoning/cruelty to one animal. He was placed in jail and given a $300 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison for the second-degree killing/torturing of an animal and up to 93 days in jail for the animal cruelty charge.

The incident happened at 12 a.m. on May 24 at a home in the 4500 block of Fleming Street in Dearborn Heights, according to prosecutors.

Police said Habeeb stomped on the neck of a 3-year-old chihuahua that belonged to a 45-year-old Dearborn Heights woman, killing the dog.

Habeeb was arrested in connection with the incident later that day after a police investigation.
