Wayne County Roads Division Is Adding Trucks To Its Fleet And Is Hiring Winter Drivers

DEARBORN, MI — Wayne County’s Roads Division maintains over 99 snow routes and all 99 are ready for whatever the winter of 2016-2017 throws at them, according to a news release.

“Snowplows are primed, the salt is stocked, and road crews are geared up and ready to roll,” Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans said in a statement. And it doesn't matter if its a snowstorm or ice storm, Evans added, “Our road crews are seasoned at clearing snow and ice. They’ll be out there working to keep our roads as safe as possible during this winter season.”

Wayne County added 12 new trucks to its fleet this year and now has 162 trucks ready to hit the pavement. 46 trucks are equipped with wing plows, which let the trucks cover roads one-and-a-half times wider than trucks without wing plows. “By providing our crews with the right tools we can clear roads quicker and more efficiently...We're going to be ready at whatever time, day or night, that snow falls or ice freeze ” Beverly J. Watts, Director of Public Services, said in a statement.

-Thursday, Dec. 1, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Central Maintenance Yard (29900 Goddard Rd., Romulus )

-Friday, Dec. 2, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Freeway Yard (5811 Brush St., Detroit)
