This Weekend! An Obsession for Vintage Glassware
Depression Era Glass Collector Group Hosts 51st Annual Show and Sale at Ford Community and Performing Arts Center
Dearborn, MI – Glass enthusiasts, interior decorators, tablescape artists, fans of art deco and mid-century modern design and many others will be on their way to the Michigan Depression
Glass Society (MDGS) Annual Glass Show and Sale at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 2-3, 2024.
The popular event includes over 20 national dealers -- with some exhibiting at the show for the first time -- and will feature glassware made only in the U.S. dating from the 1800s, through the Depression Era years, up until the 1980s.
Long-time MDGS member Jonathan Fuhrman, a social media influencer known for his love of glass, entertaining and designing tablescapes, shops at this show each year like a pro. “This event draws crowds of over 1,500 attendees from across the country, ranging from avid collectors to those who enjoy hosting dinner parties, serving cocktails or filling their kitchens with trendy and useful glassware,” he explains.
“The show offers a truly immersive experience, with a 15,000 sq. ft. room filled with glass in every color of the rainbow and for use in every room of the home. It’s a wonderful way to spend a few hours surrounded by the beauty and history of timeless pieces.”
One of the show’s highlights is the club’s annual display, a curated collection that offers attendees a glimpse of personal treasures from some of the club’s members who will be exhibiting their glass obsessions.
This year's display will feature captivating vignettes that explore various themes and unique items such as keeping foods cold with glass icers, the allure of candy dishes, the shimmering beauty of opalescent glass, nostalgic children's dishes, and entertaining with vintage bar ware.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our 51st annual show with an incredible display of glass our members are obsessed about collecting,” said Jan Holdinski, president of the MDGS.
“Our members have poured their hearts into creating these vignettes, each one telling a story of the past through the beautiful artistry of glassware. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or someone new to the world of glass, there’s something here that will captivate your imagination.”
In addition to the stunning displays and vast array of glass for sale, the show will also feature hourly door prizes, a club booth with member glass available for purchase, and a membership booth offering a free piece of glass with each new membership. Glass repair services will
also be available, making this a comprehensive event for both new and experienced collectors.
Everyone is welcome to attend the weekend event to explore aisles of vintage glassware that will be for sale, the “Obsession for Glass” membership display and information about joining MDGS.
