Election 2012: Obama Wins Voters in Dexter

Tuesday's elections were a major success for the Democratic party both locally and nationally.

Unofficial election results show 64.5 percent of Washtenaw County's 280,548 registered voters cast ballots in the election. That means 181,032 people voted.

According to Ann Arbor.com, this year's voter turnout countywide was 57,360 more than the number of people who voted in the 2010 gubernatorial election, but it's about 7,178 less than the 2008 presidential election.

In Dexter, similiar to 2008, voters went the way of the nation and voted to give President Obama a second term in the White House.

Here's how the numbers break down locally for residents in the Village of Dexter and Dexter Township. These numbers reflect Dexter Township Pecincts 1-3, Scio Township Precinct 1, Webster Township Precinct 3, and Webster Township absentee ballots.

Similiar to 2008, area residents also voted to send a Democrat to the state House of Representatives. In the race for the 52nd District, Pam Byrnes of Lyndon Township won 62.8 percent of the vote in the district with 35,957 votes in 2008. In 2012, Saline Mayor Gretchen Driskell won 52.8 percent of the vote in the district, with 26,646 votes.
