- Jaslene Jaimes and her East Lansing family have been supported by their community as they face challenges associated with Jaimes' medical condition, and her former teacher is going the extra mile. Jaimes has gone through sickness and surgery during the past few years, and in 2019, began using a wheelchair for more support. However, the family's home does not have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. Jaimes' former teacher, Renee Olance, has started a GoFundMe to raise money for bathroom remodeling so Jaslene can safely access the bathroom. (FOX 47 News Lansing - Jackson)
- Nearby in Grand Ledge, firefighters responded to Grand Ledge Ravines mobile home park to what appeared to be an explosion that resulted in a massive fire. The initial call to the department came a bit before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, and upon arriving at the scene, they found a mobile home completely engulfed in flames. Due to the swift actions of the fighters they were able to enter the home and rescue five individuals who were inside with no casualties. One mobile home was severely damaged while another one only had some cosmetic damage on the exterior. (WLNS)
- The non-profit Helping Women Period is working with the state Senate to launch a pilot project centered around providing menstrual products in school districts throughout the state. Under the proposed program, students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch would also be eligible to receive menstrual hygiene products for free. This will help prevent young women from missing school due to a lack of necessary hygiene items. The executive director of Helping Women Period is currently working to get this project included in the House budget rather than just the Senate so that it will be fully funded. (WLNS)
