Here are the top three stories in Lansing-East Lansing today:

  1. Michigan State University is continuing to pile up lawsuits from the tragic shooting that occurred back in February, as international student Yukai "John" Hao has given the university notice he will be filing a lawsuit. Hao was paralyzed as a result of the Feb. 13 shooting and is filing a lawsuit, as he believes the university acted with negligence and failed to protect its students and visitors from such an incident. The international student from China's GoFundMe has raised over $436,000 for the injuries and trauma he went through from the shooting. Hao is now the third injured student to file a lawsuit against the university; as of recently. the father of Alexandria Verner is also suing MSU, as his daughter was killed in the incident. (WKZO)
  2. In Wednesday morning's press conference, Lansing police announced "Operation Slow Down," which is aiming at cracking down on speeding in the city. This project is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act; the department is utilizing new speed signs that will assist officers in collecting data about traffic patterns and what time of day sees the most speed violators. There were 24 fatalities on the roads in Lansing between 2020 and 2021; of those 24 nine were related to someone speeding. (WILX)
  3. It has been confirmed that one man was found dead Tuesday night in Lansing after being stabbed to death. A bit before 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night, Lansing officers were dispatched to Wildwood Ave. where they found a 41-year-old man with multiple stab wounds; he was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead. As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made connected to the stabbing, but it is not currently believed to have been a random act of violence. If you or anyone you know has any information regarding this incident please either contact the Lansing police, reach out to CrimeStoppers, or send a private message to the Lansing Police Facebook page.
