1. Lansing launches new emerging developer academy (wlns.com) — Lansing is reopening its SEED Academy to help emerging real estate developers build skills that can directly shape the city’s growth. Participants will get training in project assessment, financing, and navigating development, funded by federal American Rescue Plan dollars. Applications are open online through January 9, 2026, giving interested locals several weeks to apply.
   

2. Ingham County judge says deal to address Lansing's homeless camp '98%' done (lansingstatejournal.com) — A deal to resolve the long-running dispute over a large homeless camp in north Lansing is reportedly about 98% complete, according to an Ingham County judge. The agreement, involving the city and a private landowner, could determine housing options and timelines for dozens of camp residents. Advocates and residents remain anxious, unsure whether a settlement will mean support, displacement, or both.
   

3. Richard Michael Bowen (wlen.com) — Lansing is mourning the loss of Richard “Dick” Michael Bowen, an 82-year-old Navy veteran and bricklayer who worked for decades with several masonry companies around the capital area. Remembered as a generous mentor and avid outdoorsman, he leaves four children and four grandchildren. Funeral service details will be announced later this month.
   

4. Fired Michigan head coach reportedly detained by police (wlns.com) — From Lansing, reports say recently fired University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police as they investigate possible charges tied to an alleged policy-violating relationship with a staff member. The university says he was terminated for cause and has named former associate head coach Biff Poggi as interim leader of the Wolverines program.
   

5. REPORT: Former Spartan linebacker Max Bullough to return to MSU on coaching staff (wilx.com) — Michigan State football is reportedly bringing former Spartan standout Max Bullough back to East Lansing as linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator under new defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and head coach Pat Fitzgerald. The 33-year-old, an All-Big Ten captain on MSU’s 2013 title team, returns after coaching stints at Cincinnati, Alabama, and Notre Dame.
