1. MDOT provides update on US-127, I-496 projects, announces lane/ramp closures (wilx.com) — Expect significant lane and ramp closures on US-127 and I-496 in Lansing today as MDOT continues its $205 million rebuild project, including full closure of southbound US-127 from M-43 to Trowbridge. Some work is paused for weather, but intermittent short-term closures will continue, with more ramp shutdowns coming soon for traffic control removal.
   

2. GM announcement means growth for existing plants (wlns.com) — Lansing’s auto industry is getting a major boost, with GM investing more than $500 million into the Lansing-Grand River and Lansing Delta plants alongside plans for a new electric vehicle battery facility in the city. Union leaders and workers say the move validates the strength of the local UAW workforce and could bring significant green-energy growth and community benefits to mid-Michigan.
   

3. Free Employee Assistance Programs offer mental health and wellness services many workers don't know about (fox47news.com) — If you work for a Lansing-area employer, you may already have free access to counseling, financial planning, weight-loss help, and other wellness services through an Employee Assistance Program, even for your family members. The report explains what EAPs typically cover, how many sessions may be free, and why it’s worth checking with your company to see what you’re missing.
   

4. MSU converting campus land to pollinator habitat (wlns.com) — Michigan State University is turning roughly 22 acres of its Lansing-area campus lawns into pollinator-friendly meadows, gardens, and clover fields, with more acreage planned. The shift is designed to support bees and other insects while cutting mowing, labor, and emissions, showing how large institutions can improve habitat and save money at the same time.
   

5. MSU's Trey Fort donates food, toys to those less fortunate in Lansing. 'Everywhere there's someone who needs it.' (lansingstatejournal.com) — MSU basketball guard Trey Fort is using his NIL earnings to give back in Lansing, handing out bags of food at Eastside Community Action Center and delivering toys to the Boys & Girls Club of Lansing. With help from his father, teammates, and Mayor Andy Schor, he’s quickly woven himself into the community through hands-on holiday generosity.
