  1. Construction for Play Michigan!, the region's first universally-accessible playground, has begun. The playground is designed to meet the needs of children with physical, sensory, and other differing abilities with features like wheelchair-accessible play equipment, specialty swings and ramps, sensory play areas, and more. Once completed, the playground will be located on the Grand River near the southwest corner of Saginaw Street and Grand Avenue. (Lansing Parks and Recreation via Facebook)
  2. Lansing is one of 16 cities in the United States selected by the National League of Cities and the U.S. Department of Labor for the Good Jobs, Great Cities Academy. As part of the academy, the City of Lansing will focus on the development of solutions that upskill and reskill workers into jobs in infrastructure, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.   3. Leading up to and during its 2023 season, Michigan State Athletics will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Spartan Stadium. MSU Athletics has launched a new website to commemorate the stadium with historical photos, a listing of top games, and video highlights from some of the top moments in Spartan Stadium history.   4. Lansing prisoners who qualify and complete job training and education programs may be able to be released from prison sooner if the current bill introduced by State Representative Tyrone Carter passes. According to lawmakers, a House committee meeting could take place in June 2023, with testimony beginning soon in Lansing. (WXYZ 7 Action News Detroit)

  • Writers in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties can now enter the "My Secret Lansing" writing contest. Writers can submit up to two non-fiction prose pieces, or three poems, about a real person, place, event, or object in and around the Lansing area. The contest features cash prizes of up to $150, plus scheduled writing workshops to help writers get started on their submissions. (WKAR)
  • Unlike their neighbors in East Lansing, Lansing residents who have been participating in No Mow May this year may face a fine. While East Lansing's City Council passed an ordinance earlier this year to let residents grow their grasses during May, Lansing's Code Compliance Office sent letters to over 1,400 residents telling them to cut their grass or receive a fine and fee of over $300.   • In observance of Memorial Day, City of Lansing CART collections will be delayed by one day starting on Monday, May 29. Regular collection will resume on Monday, Jun. 5. (City of Lansing Public Service Department via Facebook)
