  1. The Summer Solstice Jazz Festival has officially made its way back to Lansing on Friday night, with the final night being tonight. The annual event has been around for 27 years and continues to serve as an opportunity to expose residents in mid-Michigan to the world of jazz music and the diverse history it brings with its sound. The free event throughout the weekend is featuring 2o performances across the two stages in downtown East Lansing, including three performances with the music of East Lansing composer Greg Hill. 2. The Lansing City Council is advising all residents and visitors to temporarily avoid the Lansing River Trail encampment due to the danger of needles. When the report of the encampments came out, city councilman Ryan Kost went down to check it out himself and immediately contacted the parks and recreation department for intervention. Special equipment has been rented and if all goes according to schedule, the area will be cleaned up at the latest early this coming week (FOX 47 News Lansing - Jackson)
  3. Early Friday morning, the Lansing Fire Department responded to a house fire that occurred on Baker Street. Firefighters responded to the scene on the 500 block of Baker Street at around 5:30 a.m.; the fire was not visible from outside the building, as only smoke appeared then. Firefighters were able to act quickly and efficiently and extinguish the fire within an hour; it has been confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident and no one was home during the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as of Friday. (WILX)
