Anglers, Boaters Look Out for Nets

Macomb County Marine Division says fishermen and boaters are still allowed in Anchor Bay, but should be careful of nets.

While anglers are allowed in Anchor Bay, marine officials don't want them to be the ones tangled in a net.

Macomb County Marine Division Reserve Commander Tony Viviano said Tuesday boaters and fishermen are still allowed on the waters, but should watch out for multiple nets as large as 650 feet long from now until May 24.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research station is researching the status of predatory fish on the lake. The nets are scattered throughout Lake St. Clair, often far from shore, from Anchor Bay in New Baltimore to along the Clinton River, Viviano said.

Boaters and fishermen should look out for the nets marked by floating flags and bouys, using extra caution. They should call marine officials if they have any troubles navigating around them or contact the research station if they catch tagged fish.
