Blessing of the Bikes Revs Up
North Shore Church of New Baltimore will hold its sixth annual motorcycle blessing April 23 at Gibraltar Trade Center in Mount Clemens.

North Shore Church believes that even leather-clad, hog-riding Harley lovers need the Man Above in their lane.
That's why the New Baltimore church will host its sixth annual "Blessing of the Bikes" at 2 p.m. April 23 at Gibraltar Trade Center in Mount Clemens. Registration begins at 11 a.m. for the free event that features a 10-minute blessing by Pastor Christopher Steinle, food and activities. Donations are accepted.
Anywhere from a couple hundred to 1,000 riders are expected to show this year. They will take their bikes out for spin following the ceremony.

Steinle, who rides two Harley Davidsons and formerly owned a collision shop before coming to the ministry, said the bike blessing is " just another connection for people to understand that there's a God that cares about them, even if they're out there doing dangerous stuff."
His theme throughout his sermon this year will pertain to crucifixion, focusing on a nail, he said.

Gibraltar is the most recent forum for this event, although it's been held in other places, such as in Chesterfield Township. in New Baltimore plans to transport its kitchen this year to make dishes to order.
Members of AMVETS, American Legion, Wolverine Harley Davidson and the Great Lakes Southeast Michigan Chapter of Harley Owners Group will participate as well, Steinle said.
North Shore holds services at 10 a.m. Sundays inside in Chesterfield. North Shore Community Cafe is a volunteer-run cafe that serves food and beverages in the former Jesse's bar at 35100 23 Mile in New Baltimore.
