At approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old Detroit man working for LE Com Communications, which contracts with Comcast, arrived at the house on 25 Mile Road. When he got there, he was told of a phone line issue. As he supposedly checked for the problem, the couple grew suspicious when he kept directing them away from the bedroom, Chesterfield Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

A short time later the suspect, Lequentin Randolph, declared the problem was fixed and left after giving the homeowners' his phone number. When the residents checked the bedroom, they found the top shelf of their jewelry box had been wiped clean, Myers said.

The victims notified police who found Randolph driving a white truck in the 25 Mile and Gratiot area. The responding officer noticed two pieces of gold jewelry on the driver's seat of the truck. A search of the vehicle at the station led police a bag of approximately $10,000 worth of jewelry hidden deep inside a fuse panel compartment, he said.
