UPDATE: Chesterfield Man Dies After Being Stuck By Train
A 36-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train north of 23 Mile Road.
Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 36-year-old Chesterfield Township man who was fatally struck by a train north of 23 Mile Road early Wednesday morning.
Chesterfield Township Police Detective Sgt. Deron Myers described the fatality as still under investigation. Myers said the train conductor gave a statement to police, describing the moments before impact: “I saw him. I gave warning, and he made no effort to get off the tracks.” The victim's name has not yet been released.
Police won't have anything official until a thorough analysis is made, including toxicology screenings.

Earlier Wednesday, Chesterfield Township Police Lt. Charles Verschaeve said the man was on the railroad tracks north of 23 Mile near Chesterfield Road when he was hit by the southbound cargo train.
Police received the call at 3:41 a.m. Wednesday, and 23 Mile Road was closed for approximately three hours before being reopened just before 7 a.m.
