Chesterfield Sub Rallies Around 'Rio'
A neighborhood party, complete with an inflatable screen, fire truck visit and snacks, brings entertainment home.
Pajama-clad children settled down Friday night to watch a popular movie while parents scooped popcorn, brought out blankets and looked forward to some family time.
But, instead of cuddling on their couches, residents in Baycourt Estates, a Chesterfield Township subdivision off Sugarbush, took to Rachid Court for a neighborhood movie party.
The event, featuring Rio on an inflatable movie screen, included refreshments and a visit by a truck.

Michael Williams, a Detroit police officer who has lived in the sub for more than a year, organized the party with longtime resident and educator Sandy Gendreau, "just to bring the community together," Williams said.
He said he bought the inflatable screen for the movie night. Big plans are already in the works for the screen, such as Monday night football parties in the fall.

The idea is to bring neighbors together for free entertainment just outside their homes.
"This is fun stuff and you get to know your neighbors," Gendreau said.
Resident Nicole Gatto said the first movie night will ideally become a subdivision tradition.
