Crime Blotter: Mystery Person Takes Axe to Cars While Friends Visit

Information for this blotter was supplied by police and does indicate convictions.

A suspect used an axe March 10 to smash glass and cause other damage to cars parked on Base Street in New Baltimore, said.

Before midnight, a 21-year-old Chesterfield Township woman visited with friends inside a garage when they heard loud noises. When they walked outside the garage, they discovered the woman and home owner's cars damaged. An axe was on the lawn nearby, according to a police report.

The 2008 Dodge Avenger and 2011 Ford Focus had been hit several times with the tool in the windshields and roofs. Police took pictures of the damage for evidence, the report states.

A family member who lives at the property told officers that the axe was stored behind the house and was used for chopping wood. Police brought it with them to conduct fingerprint tests.

No arrests were made at the time.
