Drivers Should Expect Ice Tuesday Morning

The National Weather Service issues a winter weather advisory for several southeast Michigan counties, including Macomb.

The National Weather Service is warning drivers to expect icy roads and use caution during the morning commute.

At 10:58 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac issued a winter weather advisory for several Southeast Michigan counties, including Macomb.

The advisory calls for a light wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain for the morning commute through the early and mid-morning hours. The mix is expected to develop between 4 and 7 a.m.

Warm air moving northward will bring a changeover to a cold rain from south to north up into the M-59 and I-69 corridors through late morning.

Precipitation will change back over to snow during the afternoon. Although temperatures will climb above freezing through the late morning hours, untreated or less-traveled roads will likely remain slippery, according to the weather service.

A light glazing of ice is expected with little in the way of snow accumulation.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until noon Tuesday.
