Drunken Driver Zips Down Freeway in Wrong Direction
A 29-year-old Berkley resident allegedly sped several miles toward oncoming traffic down I-94 in Chesterfield Township. The following information was supplied by the police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 29-year-old Berkley man drove about 80 mph down I-94βin the wrong directionβfor several miles Sunday, said.
The confused driver, who was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, seemed unaware he was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway, police said.
In the early Sunday morning hours, police received reports that a vehicle was speeding in the fast lane of I-94 westbound near 26 Mile in the opposite direction. Cars swerved into the next lanes to avoid head-on collisions with the vehicle, according to the police report.

When an officer caught up to the vehicle and handcuffed the driver and told him he was going the wrong way, the driver had trouble comprehending he wasn't en route to Berkley from Mount Clemens. He was administered a Breathalyzer test, which resulted in a .167βmore than twice the state's legal limit for driving, police said.
The man's identity was not released.
