Headed Out of Town This Weekend? Michigan Gas Prices Among Highest in Country

If you're driving to an out-of-town destination to enjoy one of the last weekends of summer before school starts, you may be paying some of the highest gas prices around the country.

According to the AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report, the average gas price in Michigan is $3.83 per gallon for regular gasoline. The average in the Mitten State this time last month was $3.78 per gallon and the average last year was $2.70 per gallon for regular gas.

Michigan's regular gasoline prices are surpassed by Alaska ($3.91 a gallon), California ($3.88 a gallon), Connecticut ($3.93 a gallon), Hawaii ($4.11 a gallon), Illinois and New York ($3.87 a gallon), and Washington ($3.84 a gallon).

The national average for regular gas is $3.64 per gallon, which is about a dollar more than drivers were paying at the same time in 2010. The national average for regular gas at this time last month was $3.70 per gallon.

• Meijer at 23 Mile and Gratiot, for $3.75.
• Marathon at 50900 Donner, for $3.75.
