In Photos: Coyote Sighting in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Township resident snaps shots of the wild animal by Carkenord Elementary.

Chesterfield Township resident Nicole Penberthy snapped photos early this month of a coyote near off 24 Mile Road.

Regarding the Sept. 1 sighting of the wild animal that lives throughout the region and has the ability to adapt to changing habitats, Penberthy told Patch:

"My family and I spotted him on our way home one afternoon. He was just hanging around in the wooded areas around the school.

"My concern is that he does not seem very fearful of people and, if a child sees him, they might confuse him with a dog. I know that area was his home before it was built up. I wish there was something that could be done with the wildlife when the developers come in because there are more animals aside from the coyote who are being displaced," she said.

According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, coyote reach a maximum height of 18 inches, length of three feet and weigh 25 to 45 pounds.
