In Photos: Local Kids Visit Chesterfield Historical Village

welcomed home-schooled students Nov. 14 to learn about how early settlers lived in the area.

Many of them dressed in period clothing and the historical society provided bonnets for the girls. During the visit to the village on , the children performed everyday chores that were required of their young counterparts long ago. Among the tasks were shelling and grinding corn to feed chickens, pumping water from the well, hand-sawing wood for stove and fireplace and making candles. They also learned lessons in the school, made crafts in the cabin and watched the blacksmith at work to understand how valuable his role was to the community, according to the historical society.
