MCC Initiates Paperless System
Bobbie Remias' dream saves trees and creates efficiency at Macomb Community College.

Who: Bobbie Remias, director of finance and investments at Macomb Community College. The college has been named a Models of Efficiency, Spring 2011 honoree by University Business Magazine for initiating a paperless, electronic system for more than 5,000 checks.Β
Green Dream: To find an alternative to the traditional method of generating and distributing 5,000 paper checks for financial aid and sponsored students to purchase books and then arranging stop payments and reissuing checks for the 20 percent of these that were lost, stolen, misused or never cashed. The solution?Β An electronic link between the accounting office and the bookstore so students can now access available bookstore funds and have charges automatically applied against their account.Β
Why go green? The obvious goal is to conserve our precious natural resources. But beyond that, the college is also dedicated to focusing precious human resources to serve students versus shuffle paper.
