New Baltimore Gas Station Embezzlement Case Heads to Macomb County Circuit Court

An embezzlement case stemming from a New Baltimore gas station was bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court.

New Baltimore resident Taylor Klein, 21, waived her preliminary exam Jan. 2 in 42-2 District Court. Klein is expected to have a pretrial hearing and arraignment at the higher court in Mount Clemens Jan. 14 before Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski, according to court officials and records. 

Klein faces a 15-year felony of embezzlement between $50,000 to $100,000 for allegedly stealing approximately $60,000 from her employer at the Sunoco gas station on 23 Mile Road. She is suspected of fishing cash out of the top of a safe deposit slip, police said.

On Dec. 17, police responded to a report of $10,000 to $15,000 missing from the safe. Investigators checked surveillance footage and identified Klein as the suspect. The owner reviewed records for the past three months and determined $60,000 was unaccounted for, New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley previously said.

Detectives picked Klein up from the gas station and questioned her the following day. A search warrant was executed at her New Baltimore apartment, recovering more than $50,000 and marijuana, Wiley said.

She also was charged with a one-year misdemeanor of marijuana possession.
