Remembering Chesterfield Soldiers Killed in Action
A flagpole tribute in an Oakland Township cemetery includes two local men. Tributes for late soldiers are planned.
Amid more than 200 flagpoles honoring Michigan men and women who died serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts are tributes to Chesterfield Township soldiers.
The two local men reflected in the at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Oakland Township are:
- Clare County native Army Pfc. Robert M. Friese, 21, of Chesterfield Township, who died April 29, 2011, in combat in Iraq.
- Army Spc. Shane H. Ahmed, 31, of Chesterfield Township, who died Nov. 14, 2010, in combat in Afghanistan.

The holiday and future bring opportunities to honor fallen soldiers in the area.
- A is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in downtown New Baltimore. An estimated 200 people are expected to attend the event starting at Front and Washington, proceeding to City Hall and on to local cemeteries.
- Meanwhile, a permanent has been in the works for Chesterfield Township on off Sugarbush. The site will be dedicated to 22 fallen 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, most of whom hailed from Michigan.Β
