Arts & Acts Weekend Guide: More About the Festival, Carnival and Other Northville Events

Here's a guide to what's going on in the downtown area from June 21-24.

To call it a busy weekend in Northville would be an understatement. Beginning Thursday, the will kick off a weekend-long series of festivities.

  • One of the most visible parts of the Arts & Acts weekend will be the an art market lining downtown streets. Vendors will be on Main Street from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday night, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 
  • will feature works by local playwrights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the . Reservations are recommended. Tickets are $10 when reserved before June 21 and are $12 after that.
  • : More than 20 locally made films of various lengths will be shown at the Northville Art House on June 23. Ticketing options vary from $5 to $20, see listing for more details.
  • A beer tent will be set up during the festival at the , located at Center and Dunlap streets. It will be open on Friday and Saturday afternoons until 10 p.m.

After a years long hiatus, Northville's carnival is . The carnival opens Thursday. It's open Thursday and Friday from 4-11 p.m. On Saturday it's open from 12-11 p.m. and on Sunday from 12-8 p.m.

Tickets to ride are $1 each and passes are $20. Some Northville businesses have coupons available for a $3 pass discount.

Solstice Run

Online registration for the run has passed, according to the sponsoring organization's website. However, you can still register in person at Northville Square from 6:30-8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The first event, the 10K run, begins at 7:15 a.m. Other events include the 10 Mile, 5K Run/Walk and Maui Mile. Visit the event website for pricing information.

Northville is host to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out program, which brings replicas of well-known art work to the outdoors. There are six pieces hanging outside of the Northville Art House, at the Northville Square mall, the wall of the , outside of , in Northville's town square and at Hutton Park.

A miniature art hunt and letterboxing will be held during the festival. Details on both events will be available at the festival Information Booth downtown. The free Art Hunt will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The letterboxing scavenger hunt will begin at 10 a.m. on June 23.

Musician Jill Jack, who plays a blend of folk and rock, will perform in Northville's town square. Her concert begins at 7 p.m.

Here's a look at the rest of the weekend concert schedule:

Saturday

  • From 3-4 p.m, catch The Basement Band, which plays funky folk rock
  • From 5-6:30 p.m. the Steven Mullan Band will play R&B Pop/Rock Acoustic tunes
  • From 7-9 p.m. Tumbao Bravo will play Cuban-inspired jazz

Sunday

  • From 2:30-3:30 p.m. the Ensemble will perform

A commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 will be held on June 24 at . The free event will be held from 1-4 p.m. and will include a flag raising ceremony, Marine and pioneer re-enactors, music, history of the War of 1812 and refreshments.

The National Weather Service (NWS) weekend forecast shows there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. Otherwise, expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 88. In the evening, partly cloudy skies are likely with a low around 61 degrees.

On Friday, expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 81 degrees, according to the NWS. In the evening, partly cloudy skies are likely with a low around 59. 

On Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 80. In the evening, it's expected to be mostly cloudy with a low around 64.

On Sunday, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms with partly sunny skies with a high near 79, according to the NWS.
