Crime Report: Seven Mile Trespassers Cited While Trying to Make Music Video

Band taping halted due to trespassing

Ten people were cited for trespassing on the Seven Mile Road property, the former psychiatric hospital site, on April 29 at about 2 p.m. while they were trying to make a music video.

According to township police reports, the group told the responding officer that they were given permission but could not provide any proof. The band was set up by the main building and ranged in age from 23 to 69 years old.

They were cited for trespassing and are due to appear in the 35th District Court in mid-May.

Accused cheesecake thief found

A Northville man was arrested on April 26 after he was accused of trying to satisfy his sweet tooth by stealing a variety of items from Market on Center Street.

According to city police reports, the store has video showing the 52-year-old man filling his coat pockets with items including a small cheesecake, a soda and an M&Ms candy bag. The items were valued at $15.66.

On his way out of the store, a Hiller's emplyee stopped him, noticed the items and asked him to return into the store, according to the police report. The man agreed and tried to run but was grabbed by the employee and fell. When the man fell, according to the police report, he dropped the items and his cell phone, getting away with only a $3.99 bag of M&Ms.

He left his cell phone and ran away, according to the report. Using information from the phone, police tracked him down and interviewed him. The store plans to seek prosecution.

Catalytic converter reported stolen

A resident of apartments on Swan Lake Drive in the township reported to police that his car's catalytics converter had been stolen.

According to police reports, it was parked in front of his car on the evening of April 30. The next morning, he drove and noticed it was much noisier than usual. He told police that a mechanic discovered the catalytic converter had been cut from the car.

Car reported stolen

A resident on the 20000 block of Northville Place Drive reported to township police that a car her boyfriend had been using, a navy blue 2002 Chrysler Sebring, was stolen.

The incident occurred sometime between the night of April 28 and early April 29, she told police.

According to the report, items from inside the car were found on the ground near the spot where it was last parked. Police found no signs of forced entry such as broken glass.

Car fire reported

A fire was reported underneath the hood of a car parked on the 16000 block of Country Knoll Drive.

According to township police reports, the car was recently in storage and had been driven for about 15 minutes to the house. Residents of the house tried to put the fire out with a garden hose but couldn't. Northville Township's fire department put out the fire. The garage and house were not affected.

Vandalism reported

A home was reported vandalized on April 25 on the 18000 block of Parkshore Drive.

Someone threw rocks at and broke a decorative window near the home's front door, according to police reports. The owner inside did not see who broke the window.

Accused shoplifters arrested

• A 22-year-old man was arrested at the Haggerty Road Meijer after store security said he was found with $80 in video games concealed in his pockets. According to township police reports, the man was seen on video on April 24 removing them from their cases and putting them into his pockets. He was arrested and released on $300 bond.
• A 31-year-old Farmington Hills woman was arrested by township police on April 23 after Meijer store security said she was caught trying to steal from the store. According to police reports, the woman was seen putting items from the baby and toys departments into reusable bags. She then went to customer service to return the items and get money, according to the police report. She was issued a gift card for $114.86. She was later arrested by township police and is due to appear in the 35th District Court on charges of larceny.

Woman reports wire fraud

A 43-year-old Novi woman told township police that she was scammed by a group claiming she would be wired $3,000 if she wired them $265.

She went to Western Union at Meijer and sent the money to a man in India. According to the report, she checked her account to see if the $3,000 had been deposited and it had not. She told police she contacted the man who called her and he said she needed to pay additional fees to receive the money. She did not.

She then called township police to report the transaction.
