Help NHS Give Back During Outreach Week

Northville High School’s Student Congress, National Honor Society, and Rotary Interact are teaming up to host Outreach Week, Feb. 25 to March 1, according to an email from Northvilel student leaders. The week will feature fun spirit days, lunchroom activities, fundraising events, a Friday pep assembly, the third annual Snowcoming Dance, and a Special Olympics basketball tournament. 

From this week of community outreach, fundraising efforts will be donated to the Cooke School Program and The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Michigan.

Throughout the week, National Honor Society members will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win two tickets to the March 2 men’s basketball rematch between The University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Each raffle ticket is $10 (or 3 for $25) and can be purchased during any lunch Monday through Friday or at parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday. All proceeds from this raffle will go to either the MStars or MSUStars for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The donation to the Make-a-Wish Foundation will be made to the university that garners the most student and staff support on Wednesday’s MSU/UofM Day.

Student Congress will be selling a limited number of uniquely designed Outreach Week t-shirts during all lunches throughout the week. The shirts will cost $15, and all proceeds go to support the featured charities.

On Thursday, Northville Rotary Interact will be hosting a fundraiser dinner at Noodles and Co. from 4-6 p.m. All profits from this event will be donated to the Outreach Week charities. Flyers will be available during Outreach Week and parent teacher conferences, which must be brought to Noodles and Co.

On Friday, NHS will host a pep rally during school from 1:15-2:15 p.m. The rally will feature a student vs. staff volleyball game, spirited activities, and the raffle drawing for the two tickets to the Michigan/Michigan State men’s basketball game. That same evening, Student Congress is hosting the Third Annual Snowcoming Dance from 7-10 p.m. Tickets will be sold Monday through Thursday for $10 with prices increasing to $15 on Friday. There will be no tickets sold at the door for this dance.

NHS will also be accepting donations for the charities all week long and will have a fundraising table at parent teacher conferences.

On Saturday, Northville High School and the National Honor Society are hosting a Special Olympics District Basketball Tournament. More than 500 athletes and coaches will participate from the following counties: Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Lenawee, and Hillsdale. This will be the National Honor Society’s 15th year of involvement with this event. More than 75 Honor Society students will be ambassadors for this event, helping to officiate, keep game books, keep the game clocks, and help with the overall running of the event. Games start at 8 a.m.
