Man Faces Larceny Charges for Hiding Liquor in Microwave

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northville Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Northville Township police arrested a man April 17 at Meijer, 20401 Haggerty Road, on larceny charges, according to a police report.

The responding officers were told by a Meijer loss prevention officer that there was a suspect under surveillance who was stealing liquor and concealing it inside a microwave oven, the report said. The loss prevention officer said he saw the suspect select two bottles of Cuervo 1800 tequila, a bottle of cognac and some socks and put them in the microwave oven before putting the oven back in its box.

The man paid for the microwave on one transaction and then purchased other items on another transaction, but he did not pay for the concealed items, according to the report. Loss prevention then stopped the man after he left the store.

The loss prevention officer examined the box, noticing it was heavy and the side tape appeared to have been reapplied. According to the report, the loss prevention officer found three DVDs in the empty space around the oven and four liquor bottles, which were wrapped inside men’s socks, and girls’ clothing packed inside the oven.

Police arrested the man on larceny charges and took him to the Northville Township Police Department where he posted a $180 bond and was released, according to the report. He has an 8:30 a.m. hearing May 8 at 35th District Court.
