Mike Nolta Announces Candidacy For Northville Township Board of Trustees

Mike Nolta has announced his candidacy for one of the four trustee seats on the Northville Township Board of Trustees.

Nolta, a 20-year veteran of Ford Motor Company, works as a Capacity Planning Supervisor. In this role, he chairs consensus meetings with marketing, finance and program management, then ensures the assembly plants, purchasing and supply base are aligned with the results.

”Everyone is aware of the financial challenges we faced in the automotive industry and I will bring my experience operating with reduced resources to the township," said Nolta. “We must maintain our high quality services while keeping taxes low.”

Nolta believes in giving back to the community. He has been a mentor for Northville Youth Assistance, a hospice volunteer and taught Junior Achievement in the Dearborn school system. He also served two separate terms on the Hills of Crestwood Homeowner Association Board of Directors, during which he worked with the Township as chair of the detention pond committee and with Wayne County as chair of the roads committee.

Nolta enters the race as an alternative to other candidates with existing ties to the township. “The economic issues that have caused a decline in the tax base should make us re-evaluate our priorities. This is especially true with respect to the proposed Seven Mile park on the former state psychiatric hospital property.”

“My wife and I participated in the initial study sessions and provided feedback to the four resulting proposals via the web," said Nolta. “As I told the Board of Trustees at its February meeting, I found it heartening that residents’ feedback was so strongly incorporated into the master plan."

He added, “However, we cannot expect the taxpayers to finance this proposed $82 million dollar project on top the existing $21.5 million land-acquisition millage we will be paying over 20 years. Likewise, the Township needs to be very careful about buying the Scott Correctional Facility from the State of Michigan for $1 – a financing mechanism for demolition and cleanup should be developed before we take on any more property we cannot maintain.”

Nolta holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Engineering Sciences from Michigan State University. He and his wife Judy, also employed by Ford Motor Company, have resided in Northville Township since 2001.
