Northville Company's Kenneth Phillips Joins '40 Under 40' Award Recipients

Crain's Detroit Business honors Kenneth Phillips for leading Northville-based Gentherm in the $252 million acquisition of a German-based automotive firm.

Crain's Detroit Business announced the 2013 class of 40 under 40 honorees last week.

Among this year's recipients is Kenneth Phillips, 39, vice president and general counsel of Gentherm Inc., a thermoelectric technology supplier, headquartered in Northville.

According to Crain's, Phillips led the $252 million acquisition of a German-based automotive firm, W.E.T. Automotive Systems AG, for the company.

Phillips was able to work a deal in February and Gentherm settled a dispute with W.E.T. shareholders who opposed the deal, Crain's reported.

"The transaction was by far the hardest deal I've worked," he told Crain's.

Since 1991, Crain's Detroit Business has honored Metro Detroit's high achievers with its 40 under 40 awards. According to Crain's, the purpose of the award is to "honor the best and brightest in Southeast Michigan who have made their marks in business before age 40."
