Northville High School Grad Joins City's Police Force

Andrew Kirby, 26, started his new job Monday.

He was one of 72 applicants for a police officer job with the .

On Monday, Northville native Andrew Kirby officially embarked on his new job with the police force. He was sworn in and took to the streets as a patrol officer.

"I'd like to stay here for my career," the 26-year-old said. "I'm excited to be here."

Kirby, a graduate of , was previously employed by the Sylvan Lake Police Department for about a year. He said that just like Northville, Sylvan Lake was a small community.

"I like interacting with citizens," he said. Kirby hopes city residents will find in him someone who is a "hard worker and dedicated."

Police chief Gary Goss said Kirby stood out because he is from Northville and is familiar with Northville, as a resident and even as a former pizza delivery man.

"He's a very good fit," Goss said, because Kirby has a perfect "mindset and attitude for a Northville police officer. I think he'll do a very good job."

The last time an officer was hired for the city police department was seven years ago.
