Letter to the Editor: Novi Residents Need to Leash Their Dogs
Novi resident Nathan Hall encourages citizens to comply with the dog leash law.

Dear editor,
It has come to my attention in recent months that the Novi leash law has not being enforced. More and more unleashed dogs are appearing throughout the neighborhoods and streets of Novi. The current leash law requires owners leash their dog at all times when in public or receive a citation and a hundred dollar fine. I don't believe that this law is being followed.
I live in Island Lakes of Novi. I usually go on a weekend run and previously it would be a rare instance to see an unleashed dog. However, in recent months, it isn't uncommon to encounter two unleashed dogs on the same run. Whenever I have come across a police car and an unleashed dog the authorities turn a blind eye. This law isn't protecting the public if it is not enforced.

My goal is to have compliance with this law. I have seen owners of unleashed dogs have a leash in hand, just not attached. Leashing their dog would offer little inconvenience to the owners but tremendous safety benefits for pedestrians. The most basic solution to this problem is for readers to leash their dogs. Remember that it is not only polite, but it's the law.
Sincerely,
